The law is death is wrath… it was created to expose sin to the light: it doesn’t create sin; it reveals something that already exists (Romans 7:7). But the gospel does not give us reason to fall into despair since we have been reconciled to God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:19; Colossians 1:20). Every person, without works or personal merit, is declared righteous by faith in Christ (Romans 3:28), that is, trusting your life to the merits of another, our Saviour.
Bearing this in mind, the preaching of the good news does not exclude the preaching of the law, but the preaching of the law does not meet the needs of sinners. The law must culminate in the gospel. The new life in Christ must be the central message; it is God’s answer to a lost world, revealed in Jesus.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
